There is something very endearing in this image for me in the comaraderie of old friends and the wisdom gained through many years of life. But the title comes from that sad reality that often elderly people seem "invisible" to the rest of the world, as if they don't matter any longer, while the truth is that they have SO much to give from all they have learned and know!!

This is a poured watercolor. Poured watercolor technique uses only the primary colors. Since a demo is worth a thousand words, this is a demo by Linda Baker. A detailed drawing is gradually masked off in stages, beginning with the lightest values, and the masking is followed by pouring red, yellow and blue liquid mixtures over the work surface allowing the paint to mix naturally. Excess paint is poured off and the piece allowed to dry completely before the next darkest value is masked off, and the process is repeated until desired depth of value is achieved. The masking is then peeled away and any fine details are done with traditional brush techniques. It's a surprising and quite unpredictable process, a bit tedious (a painting can take anywhere from 3-6 days), but it has been terrifically rewarding and has resulted in some of my favorite pieces.
